Six out of 8 applications rejected so far. I knew it was a long shot on account of my age. To all those accepted into *any* sociology program, whether first choice or not: Please make your time and training count, for yourself and for society. The number of jobs that can support a middle-class lifestyle and allow one to grow intellectually have fallen precipitously even in the 20 years since I received my BA from Columbia. Hiring practices are becoming dumber. The squeeze grows ever tighter. So take the skills and knowledge and convert them to real-world influence. Effect change. Ave, morituri te salutant.
