Computer Science, Cornell University Area: NLP. Overall machine learning and allied fields seem to have become extremely competitive where people with multiple strong papers, good grades and strong recommendation letters are getting rejected. Very unfortunate.

Musicology, Cornell University Applied right out of undergrad, so not much of a chance, but this school was my first choice so I'm pretty bummed. Was hoping to maybe gain a spot on the waitlist. Hopefully I can apply again after my Master's degree!

Chemical Engineering, Cornell University To the previous commenter on 3/17/2016, I emailed Cornell for an application update and was notified that they have made all PhD offers already at this point. However, they are reviewing the PhD pool to make offers for their MS program instead, with letters going out within a week or so.
