TTPB: Congrats! Could you pleasee tell me when you submitted the application?

Two IEEE conference papers. GRE: 325 AW:4.0, TOEFL:105+, GPA:3.95+/4.3, some research experience, and some projects. I still do not hear anything from UCLA, UC-Irvine, UCSD, and USC. Also, I only get admission offers from Purdue and Brown. Therefore, I guess I will accept Brown's offer.

I was one of the posters asking if they would tell me if I was on the waiting list before Jeff replied. but reading Jeff's explanation closely it sounds like we can assume we are rejected if we havent heard back but they havent sent rejections because some "late" faculty did not do anything yet. I appreciate he came here to reply to us and Jeff even said he does not do admissions. either way it's not okay to post racist garbage here and thankfully that post was deleted

To the comments below; I also don't really like the way that Brown is doing it, but it seems to be a pretty standard thing at a lot of schools. From my non-acceptances this year, less than half were prompt rejections - in my case, UT, UW, Stanford, and (if mid-March is prompt) Cornell. The pool of "undecided" schools was of a similar caliber mix as above, so it's hard to be mad at Brown for applying a common practice. Also, I can appreciate Jeff for explaining the situation for those who were just going off of hunches. Antagonizing him would be like killing the well-intended messenger.

TTPB: Yes, it is pathetic. The top universities such as CMU, MIT, or Stanford often send their results quickly whether there are COVID19 or not. The faculties in the universities often ask students completing their works as soon as possible. However, some of faculties do not complete their jobs as soon as possible.

(Ignore waitlist). In response to Jeff, this is a pathetic excuse. Assuming more people are admitted, Brown still has to “sell” their program to get students to go. Waiting this long without any updates shows you are unorganized and/or don't care. Let's hope your faculty do research better than admissions... it's not that hard to send email updates to students. This applies for other schools too. Pathetic. With or without covid as an excuse

This is Jeff speaking as a CS faculty member not on the admissions committee, in response to comments below. We don't have a department-wide waitlist for PhD applications because after admissions committee review, individual faculty or groups can make decisions on PhD applicants, and some do it late. Most PhD decisions have been made, but there's a non-zero chance for someone to still be admitted now. Masters admissions is a different process and still very much ongoing, I'm not sure if decisions are ready yet. Thanks for your patience, and I don't check here regularly so won't be able to follow up.

To the above two posters; I mean, you haven't been rejected, so keep waiting and keep your head up. I would say that I don't think it's likely, which is why I started taking extra measures. If all you have are delayed PhD decisions at this point, you should definitely be making some last-minute applications and contingency plans. There are a few PhD/Masters programs that are still open, so keep an eye out (Tulane PhD and UF MS, I think, are still open). In my case, I had another option, but a Brown masters would have been preferred due to the faculty alignment for my interests. If that is aggressively the case for you (for Brown or something else), maybe consider taking a gap semester/year and re-applying if this cycle doesn't work out. Good luck, honestly. Times are interesting.

Can I assume reject if I haven't heard anything at this point? Anyone who knows some inside information?

Thank you for who replied to me below. For my case, I did have interview. No one contacted me. Maybe, I should consider myself rejected.

Replying to below. I do not think it is fully (or even partially) funded from what they have sent me. Sub-par given the above-average price, but I can deal with it (on the plus side, I can appreciate the flexibility of a masters over a PhD). Forgot to mention; interested in Deep Learning/CV, did interview with POI (and was told I'd have a good chance if I applied to masters).

A question for the friend who change from PhD in CS to Master in CS. Is it fully funded Master?

Asked (before 3/15 deadline) for my PhD app to be considered for masters after long time w/ no decision. 5 days after asking, was sent an email telling me to check portal. 2 papers, great LORs. Easily one of my top choices overall, so super-hyped. Good luck everybody!
