Computer Science, Carleton University Hello there I think carleton reject everyone this year in Ms.cs my profile is 9.45 CGPA (GTU), 7 IELTS, Goggle DSC core member at college, 3 hackathons, 2 internships and rejected on sunday 25th late night it was mass rejection bcz in university group almot 40,50 people got rejection.

Computer Science, Columbia University (Fu Foundation) Is there anyone that doesn't hear any responses from the school? I didn't get anything new at all including the msg of delaying their review or interview since I submitted my application...

Computer Science, University of California-Santa Barbara TTPB: That's what I'm assuming. Considering they accept 20-40 MSCS applicants per year and how bizarre this year's cycle has been, I strongly feel that they're done accepting people who had UCSB as a safety and have better offers.

Computer Science, Carleton University IIT guy colleges dont have an agenda against certain applicants. If your profile is good enough to catch the attention of some staff at the university you have a higher chance of getting in. They really couldn't care less if you came from an IIT or some no name college. So take your saltiness somewhere else.

Computer Science, Carleton University Just because a university is ranked 650th in the world, it doesn't mean it accepts students from only Tier-4 and Tier-5 universities. The fact that you got rejected and blatantly wrote that it does, shows the kind of superiority complex that you have in your head. Moreover, if you were to share your profile, there are ways to do it and contribute without being obnoxious and using curse words. I just suggested that rather than blaming any university or the competition itself, maybe you should find ways to introspect and maybe even improve your profile. And this is applicable not just for you, but for everyone. Maybe do a RA, work on getting a recommendation from a top professor, and possibly some good research experience. Also, I believe that Canadian universities are notorious for filtering candidates just based on their GPA and English scores sometimes, so you might want to highlight your low GPA in the SOP explicitly so that the admission committee understands the reason. Also, I only suggested that you might be getting wrong advice regarding the importance of extra-curricular when applying to these universities and might have gone overboard with them in your SOP. Extra-curriculars work mostly for American/Canadian students and that too when they're applying for the Bachelor's degree as the decisions are purely rolled by the "Academic Staff" and not the "Admissions Committee" as there are fewer parameters to evaluate from. I think you will find plenty of examples highlighting the difference between the two. It's okay to be frustrated, but not okay to humiliate any university. Moreover, I didn't mean to be condescending, but rather just suggested some ways in which anyone can present their profile better (highlight key strengths, cover weaknesses) and also try and improve their profile. I apologize if I may have hurt you in any way as that was not my intention. Moreover, I didn't call you a Loser, someone else did, my post was the one after the "Loser" post. This year was tough for sure, but if you could crack JEE where the odds were 0.1%, you can crack these universities as well. All the best!

Computer Science, Carleton University To the Carleton reject iit guy below. You were frustrated and ranted out your frustration by demonizing the university by saying that it accepts students from only tier-4 and tier-5 universities. I think it was right that you were put in your place. Moreover, the issue is not writing that you are from iit, the fact that it carries little weight makes writing is irrelevant. And when you spoke about studying day and night for 2 years to get into iit, other students have also put in equal if not more hard work than you and have gotten accept from these universities. So when you say that a particular university (that you got rejected from) only accepts students from Tier-4 and Tier-5 universities, it trashes their efforts. AFAIK, you are probably getting wrong advice regarding the importance of extracurriculars for admission to universities, so you might want to re-evaluate that as well. And work on improving your profile, what you did wrong etc. because there are thousands of students with a similar profiles as yours and thousands with even better profiles. Improve your profile, and don't expect that the admissions will be handed out to you on a platter. And yes, I got accept from CMU MCDS, Columbia, UMass, and NYU (7 rejects, 2 pending) and I am from one of the top private universities in India and many of my friends got in as well so you would be surprised when you compare their profile with yours and that they are leagues ahead in terms of gpa, recommendations, internship and research experience, as well as their publications.
