Part of the email: “You have been admitted to our graduate program. While we very much hope to recruit you to our program, you are currently on our waitlist for funding. Because of equity considerations, only fully funded students are offered full admissions to our Ph.D. program. We have very limited departmental funds available for funding packages with an extremely competitive admissions pool. As graduate director, I will apply for additional funding from other funding sources university wide. This typically takes several weeks to sort out. While I cannot guarantee funding at this time, it is important to note that we frequently go through the waitlist to construct our incoming cohort.
