Obtaining directly related professional degree. Was accepted to UChicago's MAPSS program after being rejected for PhD in history. Received 15K in scholarship and opportunity to apply for further funding. However, I'm not feeling optimistic (as neither funding nor a PhD path are guarenteed). I'm literally only posting this in case it helps someone in my situation years down the line.
