Grade: 1.6 (german gpa scale); doing MSc in astrophysics; Total 4 yrs of research experience, including 2 yrs in astronomical instrumentation. Two summer schools in instrumentation. No pubs or conference presentations. Worked on various topics and currently doing thesis on galaxies, but wanted to switch fields, so applied for exoplanets. Didn't cold-emailed profs before. Really thought it would have worked, but I guess my lack of depth in astrophysics research and no pubs weakened my application. But I'm really happy for everyone who got in!! All the best guys!
