Thank you for your application to the PhD program in Physics and Astronomy at Stony Brook University. Unfortunately, I have to let you know that we have concluded making all the PhD offers we will be able to make this year and will not be able to make you an offer to join the PhD program. The limitation on the number of offers we can make is mostly financial and we recognize that there are a large number of excellent students who could thrive in our program, but that we cannot admit to the PhD program at this time. I hope that you will receive offers from other programs and find a good path forward to pursue your scientific interests. This email is not an official rejection letter, you will receive an official notification from our system in the coming weeks, but as that will take a while to process I wanted to let you know of this decision as soon as possible so that you can make other plans for the coming academic year.
