I also received an email saying that " Your application portfolio was a strong one, and we would like to have you in our program. If there were not constraints on our resources, we would have directly admitted you, but unfortunately we can admit only a small number of students, and the admissions committee decided to prioritize other applicants." So I think every student on the WL may receive the same kind words.
