HEP-Th. Generic Rejection Letter. Probably I was on the waitlist and after all the students filled the positions they have sent me the rejection letter just a while ago. I had a long discussion regarding future research projects and the PI told me that my profile is very strong and they will be able to offer me admission. Personally, it seems to me that in US universities, PI doesn't have any role to play regarding admissions. If I apply next year, I am not sure whether to contact them or not as it raises our expectations and then comes a rejection at the end. (In the generic rejection letter their reason for not offering me the position is- Non-Competitiveness. Hilarious actually.)
