Email from adcom director. 20th US/transnational. FOR ALL THOSE STILL WAITING: I have, over the past 5 years, applied to 60 doctoral programs. Got into none of them until now. Between times, I wrote articles, got fellowships and internships, stayed in contact with historians, etc. It has been a hard row to hoe, but just KEEP PUSHING! And note: it's not you, it's the f'ed up systemic situation that plagues us. KEEP GOING, YOUR WORTH AS AN INTELLECTUAL AND PERSON IS NOT DEBATABLE BY ADCOMS
