UC San Diego
Mathematics, PhD (F21)
Rejected via Other on 13 Apr 2021
Note
What a shame with such a reviewing process. It's crystal clear that UCSD is one of the well-known schools in mathematics and has a large number of applicants every year competing for a few available spots and positions in the department regardless of the situation. Considering the application deadline Jan 6th and the regular school's deadlines for accepting/declining any admission offers (Apr 15th), They have kept us 3 months in darkness to reject everyone at once? Did they decide on rejecting all these people in this short period of time? Saying short period of time because it's only 2-3 days that the app portal had some changes telling that they're doing sth with our applications. As much as they want to tell us we had a large number of applicants and ..., this kind of approach is not acceptable anyhow. You can not keep everyone waiting until the last days getting closer to the deadline, keeping everything on hold, and then rejecting all people at once. My problem is not with getting rejected. My problem is with not letting us earlier decide with other schools. These kinds of schools like UCSD create such a loop that put everyone on a frustrating hold to make decisions even with their offer in other schools. If someone is waitlisted, you can send an email letting them know; if someone is rejected or going to get rejected, you can let them know earlier. Keep everyone waiting for this period of time is not acceptable!
