TPB: To corroborate the previous post, the exact language was "Due to a university-wide policy, we were only able to admit around a quarter of our usual class size this year". On the other schools, I don't think that Stanford's target cohort size was cut. During the visit day, which included waitlisted candidates, the faculty said that they had to waitlist more candidates than usual b/c the university wanted to avoid admitting too many people. They never said that they wanted a smaller total cohort. Looking into the claim about MIT's cohort size. I don't know anything about Chicago though.
