TTPB. I think I would be the best judge for my profile, in MY field and trust me I have enough indicators from other good schools for the same. Although I didn't mention that this is one of the top profile, but I would certain not call it average. Even if it is average, how does that justify a professor willing to take you on but can't because of the strong hold of a committee who is infamous for their weird criteria of rejection. I have also heard that the dropout rate for CMU is very high. This definitely makes me wonder that the randomness factor is extremely high for CMU.
