If, as an admissions committee, your goal is to get the best candidates possible, and you use metrics for evaluating candidates that have nothing to do with their abilities, drive to succeed, experience, or anything else that would help find the most promising and successful candidates, then logically you will end up not reaching your stated goal of getting the best possible candidates. You might get people who are *good enough*, and you might get *very lucky* and pick the best because they just so happened to be brown, tan, white, black or whatever skin color you are going for, but most likey you won't get the best candidates. I don't see how it is hard to see that.
