Wow, I'm so *very* sorry for the late update. (I've literally just learned about this forum...because I'm clearly out of touch.) The DGS sent a very kind email, followed up with a phone call. If I win the graduate school fellowship they've nominated me for, this will definitely be one of the best funding packages I've heard of. (The stipend comes with *no* teaching/tutoring duties for the entire length of the program...like none at all.)
