To the person asking about setting up SUNet: if you go to the 'grad admissions - admitted students' website (just type that into google, preceded by 'Stanford'), all the instructions are there. It should work with the University ID which you were given. If not, maybe send your department an email informing them it doesn't work? I did the above and it's all up and running, so it should work for you too! Hope that helps :)
