Responding to person asking if I contacted professors beforehand – no, I did not, and this was a very unexpected acceptance (nearly all of the faculty doing astro said they weren't accepting students, or they were only accepting students with their own funding, which I also didn't apply for...) Haven't heard back from Toronto Astronomy dept yet though.
