SAIS International Studies HNC, Johns Hopkins University Got accepted with 4 years of Chinese experience with one year of study abroad experience in Taiwan. STAMP test 1316. Currently doing a fellowship which requires me to translate Chinese news articles and a senior research project which required me to do interviews and surveys in Chinese.

International Relations, Johns Hopkins University SAIS, Johns Hopkins University Accepted straight from undergrad. Applied for a focus on East Asian Security. Didn't have proper job experience other than being conscripted and serving as a social agent, an alternative form of military service for 21 months (a bummer because direct experience in the military would also count as work experience, too). Internships at an NGO and a think tank. Strong LOR and GPA for relevant major courses. Strong extracurricular activities directly/indirectly related to International Security. Accepted to Fletcher MALD, and waiting for SIPA/GWU.

MAIR, JHU SAIS Former high school dropout, ex-military SF guy, graduating a top uni for IR in Europe. Got accepted with institutional aid up to 60% of the tuition for the first year, renewable to the second with a GPA of 3.4. Did not send any optional essay for other scholarship (dumb)

International Relations, Johns Hopkins University SAIS Cannot believe I was accepted, I'm thrilled! Received an email to check portal. No GRE, URM, fantastic LORs, undergraduate research experience in the IR field, did the optional interview. Intermediate in a 2nd language in my area of study and conversational in a 3rd language. Currently 2A/1W/0R/9P.

SAIS, Johns Hopkins Rejected, applied straight from undergrad. 2 DoS internships, strong LOR, experience studying abroad, 2 languages, not completely shocking considering caliber. Accepted to American, GW, Tufts Fletcher School.
