  • To the poster asking about funding for the MPhil Econ. For the ESRC, the Economics Department approached me around March 13 asking for a research proposal. That's how I found out about the nomination. Emailing the departmental admissions administrator, asking directly for nominations, has also worked for some people. Some applicants in the SoSci division have received Clarendon offers so the board has met. If the econ dept has already notified the winners, I do not know.

  • Has anyone heard (or not heard) about funding for economics (or general social sciences) masters? If you've already gotten funding - did the department tell you you were nominated beforehand? Thanks!

  • Have Clarendon funding results for MPhil Economics been released yet?

  • It may not be the official line, but I would expect a First from Cambridge to have some weight. Especially since they should know the program very well. Best would be, of course, you average 75% in your last year :) Otherwise I would approach them again after you get the results. Hope it goes well and we get to meet in Oxford in fall! Oh, btw. Cam (Econ Research) was also more lenient in my case (1.3/5 ~ 70%). It is only for Oxford that the conditions are pretty restrictive ...

  • Well, I'm from a top 3 German Uni for econ and have a condition of 1.2 / 5 for my degree. After being a semester at Warwick, I would say this is pretty similar to having a 75% in the UK. So I can feel you, except here this means 75% (in UK terms) for the whole degree, i.e. across all 3 (!) years, not only the final.

  • I got my offer last week, but I dont think all offers have been given out yet for the MPhil Econ. My offer is a first with 75% in my final year. Is it only me who thinks that this condition is ridiculous? I am currently at a top 5 uni in UK doing Economics and getting 75% is close to impossible. Any thoughts on this? Will I still get in if i get 73% or so?

  • This I am not sure! But I wouldn't interpret anything too much as I would bet they are sending offers/rejections randomly. If I was you, I would probably write a friendly email to Admissions and ask for an update or an estimate of when they intend to notify all applicants.

  • To the poster below: The self-service will not change regardless of getting an offer or being rejected. You will receive a notification via email (and solely email). You may want to wait until the 10 weeks period is over or you email them directly asking for an update.

  • Hey guys, I just got an Email from the UAS Disability service (I am a disabled applicant) congratulating me on securing an offer. However, I did not receive any Email or anything regarding my application yet. Does this mean that I have been 100% accepted? Or could this be a cruel mistake? I am really worried because I am not a really strong applicant and didnt think that I would stand a chance of getting in. Could someone shed light on this? Maybe other students in my position? Have you received this prior to getting an offer? Or even prior to getting a rejection?? Many thanks in advance!!

  • I can confirm what the poster below who also got accepted on Feb 21 said. My situation is identical: accepted informally several weeks ago and still haven't received my official letter. In the best case, they may be trying to figure out funding and inform us at the time of an official letter. To the poster who got accepted Feb 21: did they approach you regarding funding?

  • So excited! Canadian applicant, 3.9 GPA. Spent a year as a visiting student at Oxford, where I also got comparable grades (mostly firsts, a few upper 2.1s). Fairly strong LORs, and a strong background in the topic I proposed with (did research in same time period before and have worked with some of the primary source docu*ent types)
