Early Nov 2025 contacted potential supervisor and was encouraged to apply, end of Nov 2025 submitted application, mid Jan 2026 submitted application for L4E fellowship. Early Feb 2026 I get a Whatsapp message from my proposed secondary supervisor on a Sunday afternoon (Montreal time) asking if I'm available in the next couple of hours to discuss my application. As an international applicant in a different time zone unfortunately I was already asleep so replied first thing on Monday morning trying to arrange a time we could talk, and was told they would get back to me with a different time. The next thing I hear is on the 21st April when I get sent an email to look at the application portal where I find a generic rejection message. In the mean time I sent numerous follow up messages asking if they still wanted to talk with me but I never got a reply. McGill's website suggested that most applicants would hear back at the end of February and throughout March so towards the end of March I began to reach out by email to the proposed primary supervisor, program administrator, and L4E to see if they could give me any insight into the progress of my application or when I could expect to hear back. These emails and subsequent follow ups were also all completely ignored. I am obviously gutted about my application being rejected however given the seeming distinct lack of compassion, communication, and organisation shown by the anthropology department at McGill and the L4E it raises some major red flags to me about the quality of teaching and support that is offered by both the program and the fellowship. I would be very interested to hear from successful applicants about if this is the case? If the other applications I am still waiting on are also unsuccessful I will be applying for PhD programs again next year, however given the inadequacy of my experience this year I shan't be reapplying to McGill. Very disappointed.

aaaand, that's the application cycle. 0a 3r Really sad about it. Gonna have to reconsider things before next cycle. want to stay in the city.

What's the point of sending out a rejection at 3 AM, APRIL 10TH? :) Registering for a university account to see the rejection is just absurd.

They were absolutely the weirdest school when it came to communication. Up until early April, I hadn’t heard anything from them, and whenever I reached out, they kept saying they were still reviewing my application. I found their communication extremely inconsiderate. If they had already finalized their admitted cohort and waitlist, as I later learned from a reply on this platform, they should have just sent out the official rejections instead of leaving applicants hanging. Luckily, I was accepted into a great program, but it was still frustrating that their delay forced me to postpone my final decision. :(

Would not recommend applying to NYU unless you'd enjoy 4+ months of radio silence and a perfunctory rejection letter

After four months of waiting, Rejected with a curt and short email. Second time applying with a MA.

They finally rejected me today. The GPA is from my MAPSS year. The concentration for my application is archaeology. Congratulations to those who secured an offer in this tremendously difficult application season.

Grad GPA of 3.85

Super excited as this was one of my top schools!
