I have a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and a one-year Master's degree in Computer Science (Conversion degree). I have four years of work experience as an SWE. I have no research experience outside of my dissertation and no publications. I have no TA experience.

I wrote two professors' names in my SOP. Both of them have taken my interview individually. UIUC has central admission, but I believe the professors' recommendations greatly mattered in my case.

No interview. Generic rejection email.

On-Campus Professional Master of Computer Science (MCS). Applied on Jan 12th. BS Computer Engineering. GPA undergrad 3.13 and 3.49 (last 2 years). Two 1-year graduate certificates in IT governance and law (GPA 3.92). TOEFL 111. 3 LOR's (1 from SWE colleague and 2 from current and former managers). 2 years IT analyst. 6.5 years SWE (3.5 as senior SWE - finance sector, large bank). 9 years IT audit. No publications.

Have had two great interviews with a prospective supervisor prior to and following the submission of my application, still rejected.

Just received the email for the Professional Masters in CS (MCS) My stats: 3.8 in ME + CS Minor from UIUC, 3 LoR's with 1 from CS faculty, 169Q/159V/5.5AW, medium-strong SOP, no publications

Got the recommendation for admission notice in email this morning for the professional computer science degree :).

TTPB: It'll take time for the portal to be updated. The application portal is maintained by the Graduate School. The decisions were sent out by the CS department.

CS Theory group. Got the regular 2448$*9 months assistantship + 8000$ fellowship. Very likely will accept. 6 papers in theory/theoretical ML. ACM ICPC bronze medal (top 10 finalist).

Got a generic reject email on 16th March. The content reads that I have been rejected for the program while I applied for MCS. It looks like a placeholder. Also, my status on the application portal still says “Awaiting Decision”. Anyone else in the same boat?

International Student from a Tier 3 University in India. 8 publications including 2 from AAAI, 2 from EMNLP and 1 from CVPR. Google Summer of Code student in the past and mentor for 2 years. 3 internships in top AI Silicon Valley startups. 3 strong LORs including one from Head of Department and one from GSoC mentor at DeepMind. Not sure what I did wrong
